Setting the Standard

The Rainbow Tick has been working with Standards New Zealand over the last year to design the world’s first official standard for LGBTI inclusion in the workforce, and it’s finished now. The committee overseeing the drafting of the standard included representatives from the HR industry, from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the Public Service Association, the EEO and Rainbow community representation from Rainbow Wellington.NZS8200-2015-1

We are really excited about this piece of work and what it means.

While it is a voluntary HR standard, it sets a clear benchmark for any organisation that wishes to identify itself as inclusive and supportive of their workforce.

We hope it will  be picked up by other national standards organisations and the International Organisation for Standards (ISO) and thus have a truly global impact over time.

All draft standards are released to the public for comment and it was particularly pleasing that this received very little in the way of negative feedback. This would seem to indicate again that New Zealand has changed in how it views the areas of sexual and gender diversity, which is a great thing.

While there is no compulsory or official certification to show an organisation has met the standard, we at  the Rainbow Tick are in a place to evaluate this and then provide organisations with the right to use our logo to demonstrate they are compliant.
